Barcelona will reportedly offer Lionel Messi a lifetime contract

Barcelona reportedly plan to offer Lionel Messi a lifetime contract, according to club CEO Oscar Grau.

Per Sam Marsden of ESPN.co.uk, Messi intends to sign a new four-year deal with Barca but Grau revealed at the club's annual general meeting that the Blaugrana want to extend that indefinitely.

"Messi signed a four-year deal in June, but the club will offer him a lifetime contract. The idea is for Leo, who has been here since he was little, to stay here for life because he is an icon. After his playing days we want him to continue to be linked to the club."

Messi's former deal was set to expire in 2018.

The star had a bit of a down year last season for Barca but still led the squad in goals by a good margin. Messi scored 37 goals in La Liga last season while Luis Suarez managed 29 in league action.

With the recent departure of star striker Neymar Jr. Barcelona can't afford not to lock down its face of the franchise in Messi.
