The Highlight: Victor Cruz 'confused' that Giants haven't called him, says team should 'absolutely' draft a QB
With the New York Giants sitting at 1-6 and missing their top three receivers you'd think the team would be open to suggestions.
With Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard and Brandon Marshall all sidelined, former Giant and 2X pro-bowler Victor Cruz says he doesn't understand why he hasn't gotten a call.
Cruz was released by the Giants in February. He signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears in May but was released in September after failing to make an impact during pre-season.
"I don't know if upset is the right word," Cruz told Shaquille O'Neal on his podcast. "I think it's more so just a little confused. Trying to figure out, I guess, what they're thinking. I'm ready. I've been ready. Obviously I've been in this game a long time so I make sure I keep my body intact, ready to go. But I'm just a little confused, I guess, as to why I haven't gotten a call when they obviously don't have a lot of options at the wide receiver position at this moment.
"But you know, I can't try to get in their minds and pick their brains and try and do all that. I'm just figuring it out and seeing where they go, watching them week to week and seeing what happens."
Trailing the 0-8 Cleveland Brown and San Francisco 49ers, the Giants could be in a great spot to snag one of the elite QB prospects in this year's upcoming draft.
Asked if the Giants should pounce on a QB or opt for a new weapon for Eli Manning, Cruz says the team should plan for the future.
"That's a tough question," said Cruz. "They drafted a QB last year [Davis Webb] that I hear they're high on and that they like very much, but obviously this draft is very top-heavy at the QB position. I think they absolutely do [draft a QB.] I think they absolutely get a QB.
"Not that he's going to replace Eli next year or ... I think Eli retires when he wants to. He's built that type of legacy in New York. He's built that type of career there, but I do think they need to get a QB just so they have security in the future when Eli does say, 'Hey, this is it for me.'"
