The Spotlight: Colin Farrell assures us Tim Burton's 'Dumbo' isn't 'dark and twisted'

Most of us don't have warm and fuzzy memories of Disney's 1941 animated classic "Dumbo."

Once you get passed the offensive black crow characters and its odd acid trip sequence it's still just kind of a sad movie about animal cruelty in the circus. Fun stuff.

So when Disney announced plans for a live action version directed by Tim Burton, hopes for some cheery redemption left the building.

Not so, according to one of its stars Colin Farrell.

"It's certainly not dark and twisted or anything like that," Farrell told Hey You Guys. "The story on the page and what I see on set is very sweet. Really sweet and kind of buoyant. Just a really gorgeous tale. They did a bang-up job writing a narrative story around what didn't really have much of a narrative, certainly in relation to human beings and the cartoon. But they wrote a whole story and a great part for Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, myself and the two young actors who play the kids, Nico [Parker] and Finley [Hobbins].

"It's really sweet to go to work on it every day. It couldn't be any more different than [The Killing of a Sacred Deer] and I loved [Sacred] but this is a different kind of love."

As the saying goes, let's just hope BuzzFeed was wrong.

Tim Burton's "Dumbo" is scheduled for release on March 29, 2019.
