The Spotlight: Phil Lord and Chris Miller reflect on their 'SOLO' experience in first appearance since 'Star Wars' firing

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been pretty quiet since being booted from what shall forever be known as "SOLO: A Star Wars Story."
The directing pair ran afoul of Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and executive producer Lawrence Kasdan, not conducive for a career in the Star Wars. Lord and Miller were reportedly at odds with Lucasfilm brass throughout their entire shooting process, veering off-script and embracing their comedy improv style.
In their first public appearance together since being let go in June, Lord and Miller appear to have moved on.
“The experience of shooting the movie was wonderful,” Lord said to the crowd at Vulture Festival Sunday. “In terms of us leaving the project, everyone went in with really good intentions and our approach was really different from theirs… The gap was too big.”
Added Lord, “Sometimes people break up and it’s sad. We learned a lot from our collaborators, we’re really proud of our work and wish everyone with the best.”
Pretty nice, considering Lucasfilm has done a very thorough job scrubbing their memory from the project. Ron Howard wasn't brought in to just tidy up and finish it off. Either by the studio's call or necessity, Howard reportedly re-shot nearly 80 percent of the film. Ouch.
Moving right along, the pair is set to adapt "Martian" writer Andy Weir's 2017 novel "Artemis." It's a sci-fi romp about a young smuggler in space. Weird.
