Looks like someone’s Balling out of control.
UCLA freshman LiAngelo Ball, younger brother to Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball and son to LaVar Ball, was reportedly arrested this week in China.
LiAngelo was arrested with fellow UCLA basketball team freshman Cody Riley and Jalen Hill on shoplifting charges. The team is scheduled to play Georgia Tech in Shanghai on Friday.
ESPN’s Jeff Goodman broke the news on Tuesday.
LiAngelo, Riley and Hill were arrested and local police are questioning them about stealing items from a Louis Vuitton store near where the team is staying.
According to Goodman’s report on ESPN, as many as 20 cops spoke with players from both UCLA and Georgia Tech and kept them in a room for hours. The players weren’t even allowed to speak to any of the coaches during this time.
While details are still sparse outside of ESPN’s report, one has to question why LiAngelo, who has the world going for him ahead of his debut with the Bruins, would get caught up in something like this. One thing you can bet on is LaVar -- the boisterous and opinionated sports dad and head of Big Baller Brand -- is probably going to give his son a mouth full in the most LaVar way possible.
If things truly went down with LiAngelo swiping things from a Louis Vuitton store, maybe he should have known better and stayed at the hotel. Or better yet, “stay in yo lane,” as LaVar says.
