We still don't know much about Jessica Chastain's mysterious character in X-Men: Dark Phoenix but clues are starting to emerge.

Entertainment Weekly gave us the first look at the villain Thursday along with a few details.

The Molly's Game star plays an otherwordly shapeshifter who manipulates Phoenix for her own agenda. Chastain's villain is quiet but brutal. "Simon and I were talking about the character and I said, 'I keep thinking of the vet who tells you you need to put your dog down,'" says the actress of her inspiration. "There’s something very clinical about it."

We know from the plot rundown that things go awry for the X-Men during a mission to outer-space, so an "otherworldly" villain would seem to make sense. I'm guessing humanity would serve as the unlucky dog.

At the London premier of her film Molly's Game, Chastain explained exactly what attracted her to the role.

"Everyone has their ideas who I'm playing but no one really knows," said Chastain. "I was happy to be a part of it because I wanted to work with Simon Kinberg. I really liked the script that he wrote and I felt the female character was so exciting and empowering. I felt the lack of that in many comic book movies so I want to do whatever I can to support the ones that are actually showcasing women."

Not to get too inside baseball here but Chastain has already debunked the possibility of her character being Lilandra, Empress of the Shi'ar Empire. So yea, your guess is as good as mine.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters Nov. 2, 2018.
