The Spotlight: Ewan McGregor talks status of stand-alone Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars movie

A very bearded Ewan McGregor sounds like he's ready to don the Jedi robes once again.

Following his win Sunday night at the Golden Globes for Fargo, McGregor was asked if there was any truth to the talk he may reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a stand-alone Star Wars film.

"Just that," McGregor said of the chatter of being attached to the project. "There's a lot of talk and I'd be happy to play him again but I don't know any more about it than you do. There's no plan at the moment.

"I loved the new one. I saw the new one over Christmas and I thought it was really, really beautiful. I loved it."

One of the brighter points of the widely-panned Star Wars prequels, McGregor starred as Kenobi in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode II: Attack of the Clones and in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The films spanned six years from 1999 to 2005, putting his OG status right up there with the holy trinity of the original trilogy.

The Hollywood Reporter reported in August that not only was a Kenobi project in development, but that Lucasfilm and Disney may also have a director attached in three-time Oscar nominee Stephen Daldry.

Keeping in step with Disney's plans to release a Star Wars film every year, the Kenobi project would likely land in 2020 with a production start in 2019. With SOLO: A Star Wars Story due May 25, 2018 and Star Wars: Episode IX premiering Dec. 20, 2019, Kenobi in 2020 would seem to make sense.
