Artists are essentially the product of their roots and their ever-evolving tastes. That was abundantly clear for London’s newest rising-star, Tom Misch. Heavily influenced by the odd-couple of R&B and disco, we’ve got everything from the iconic slow jams of D’Angelo to the classic Jazz stylings of the Bill Evans Trio. KAYTRANDA is a personal favorite of mine, featuring experimental beats and a ton of incredible features. “GLOWED UP” is a particularly great track with Anderson .Paak taking care of the vocals. I’d recommend “DRIVE ME CRAZY” featuring Vic Mensa, as well.

John Mayer is often dismissed by diehard music fans for his slew of pop singles, but he remains one of the best guitarists in the game. I got dragged to a John Mayer concert by an old girlfriend once and was blown away by the extended instrumental sections and simple rifts between songs. The guy is incredibly talented and Continuum is his biggest hit to date. He’s also very funny, for what it’s worth. Great banter with the crowd and frequently collaborates with Dave Chappelle and Conan O’Brien. That should be enough to vouch for Mr. Mayer.

Tom Misch drops his debut album on April 6th and the three pre-released songs – "Movie," "It Runs Through Me" and "Water Baby" – are beautifully written. So good, in fact, that I’m going to throw that on this week’s top picks.
