Disorderly Fest Weekend One Headlined by Jack White, Major Lazer and LCD Soundsystem

It’s festival season! And they’re all cancelled!

Nothing rings in the spring and summer like a weekend of genre-blending, beer-drinking madness under the scolding sun and occasional rainstorm. You can’t help but ignore your deepening sun burn and wristband tan lines as you hustle from stage to stage, making sure you perfectly scheduled your day to see all the best bands.

And this year, for obvious reasons, that simply isn’t an option. Now we’re forced to see our favorite bands perform live on Instagram and while there’s a certain charm to the low-key setups, it doesn’t exactly recreate the concert experience that we’re desperate for.

Well neither will this. But we’re doing our best here.

Each Friday in May, I’ll be taking you on a virtual tour of my favorite live performances. Some will be big names who you’re probably familiar with. Some will be lesser-known acts who I hope can become your new favorites.

That’s what music festivals are all about! You go for the bands you love but you’re introduced to so many more along the way. The first festival is coming your way right now, so strap in!

Kicking things off with one of the most electrifying bands I’ve ever seen live, Royal Blood is a duo that blows the roof off of every venue they perform in. Luckily, we’re outdoors. Just wait for the breakdown.

Now that the blood is pumping, let’s pull things back a bit. Grab a beer and a burger – both roughly $10 each – and meet me on the lawn. Let’s just relax with a little something from The War on Drugs.

Well it’s getting late and night 1 of the festival is nearing it’s conclusion. We’ve got the headliner doing soundchecks on the main stage and about an hour to kill before they go on. Just enough time to dance to some LCD Soundsystem.

We’ve done it all. We’ve pushed strangers around in the pit. We ate, we drank, we danced. Now it’s time for the headliner.  A full set by one of the greatest musicians of all time. Save me a spot as close to the stage – or as close as you can get before hitting a wall of people who’ve been camping there since mid-afternoon – and let’s enjoy some Jack White.

Oh and I almost forgot! Every one of these festivals tends to have an EDM tent where DJs hold court and offer an alternative to everything going on at the other stages. I assume that’s where you crazy kids do your drugs, as well. Well at this festival, we’ll be honoring the tradition by throwing a DJ set into the mix every Friday. First up, one of the greatest live shows in the world. Truly, and it’s not even really my style of music. Major Lazer, enjoy.
